It’s summer and there’s a BBQ to go to every single weekend. When you get there, you see they’re serving pie… And you’re trying to be Gluten-Free… Oh the dilemma! I’ve already faced this problem a couple times this summer, and I’ve decided to do something about it! I decided to sign myself up to bring the pie to all the summer get-togethers this year… because I’ve found a few gluten-free solutions that won’t ruin your classic pie!

Please note that there are a million different gluten-free pie crust recipes… I only chose to feature the below recipes because they don’t include any special ingredients (like gluten-free flour, etc.). These recipes should include things that you already have in your household or would be very easy/inexpensive to buy from any grocery store or bulk food store.
Option #1: Crispy Rice Pie Crust
If you’re not Celiac, you can use brand name rice krispies, but if you are Celiac, I would recommend using a clearly gluten-free labelled brand of crispy rice cereal.
The recipe:
- I found this glorious recipe on AllRecipes.com and it works great!
- This recipe has only 2 ingredients! Note – it is a NO bake crust.
- Put 1/2 cup of peanut butter in a medium microwave-safe bowl and heat for 30 second increments, stirring after each, until warm and very loose, about 2 minutes. Add the cereal and stir and toss until combined. Transfer to a 9-inch pie plate and press into an even layer along the bottom and up the sides, using the flat bottom of a measuring cup to help. (The mixture will still be a bit crumbly.)
Option #2: Rice Pie Crust
This pie crust is definitely lower in calories, and is great when you have a ton of leftover rice that you don’t know what to do with! This works great for pies that are more on the savory side of the spectrum.
Option #3: Nut Crusts
There are many nuts that will make a good pie crust. I’ve included a few options here!
Option #4: Oatmeal Pie Crust
I love oatmeal pie crusts since they kind of taste like having an oatmeal cookie on the bottom of your pie! Here’s a great recipe from AllRecipes.
